The International Bear Rendezvous is an annual gathering of bears and bear-lovers held in San Francisco. It is hosted by the Bears of San Francisco, who conceived of Rendezvous as a weekend of fun and fund raising.
The event fosters a sense of community among participants while at the same time raising money for agencies serving the gay and HIV communities at the local, state, and national level. Fund raising is accomplished primarily through raffles, auctions, and direct donations from participants and the community. Since the first Rendezvous in 1995, the net proceeds have resulted in donations totaling over $435,000 to many non-profit organizations.

The first Sunday in October is when San Francisco’s Castro district which is the centre of the city’s of gay community holds what has become a gay institution in this gayest of cities.
This lively street fair was orginally started by legendary gay rights activist Harvey Milk as a protest event but has become one of the largest street parties for which San Francisco is renowned and regularly attracts thousands of people who come to celebrate and browse the stalls. Of course there is also plenty of entertainment on offer to keep the crowds entertained who come along in various states of undress to enjoy the fun of this unique event.
